Considering Time on New Year's Day

Time is precious indeed! Yet often enough nothing is spent so uselessly as time itself. With time, we buy eternity. Using it well, we can obtain glory and happiness - eternally. Abusing it, we incur condemnation in the fires of Hell - eternally.

The thought of eternity so filled St. Therese of the Child Jesus with anxiety, that often she would exclaim: "Oh Eternity! ... Eternity! ...Eternity!"

All the Saints were constantly preoccupied with profound thoughts of eternity: "O eternal happiness! ... O eternal misery!..." So they always followed the wise and prudent exhortation of the great Apostle Paul: "Therefore, while we have time, let us do good." (Gal. 6:10)
