The Perfection of Mary

After Mass this morning, a lady asked me whether the Blessed Virgin is perfect. Without any hesitation, I said, "yes!" "But isn't God the only perfect One?" she asked. I answered, "What does 'Full of Grace' mean to you?"

Isn't fullness of grace the real meaning of perfection? When our Lady was conceived in the womb of her mother, God infused in her soul the fullness of grace. Her immaculate conception is in anticipation of her future vocation as Mother of God. The fullness of grace elevated and perfected her humanity. Original sin rendered the human nature imperfect. Having been conceived without original sin, Mary's human soul is made perfectly beautiful by the fullness of God's grace in her.

O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!
